Meet your Team

We benefit from having our own workshop, where bespoke timber products are hand crafted to our Designer's specifications.

We also have our own nursery for the cultivation of the trees, shrubs, bamboos, ferns, grasses and herbaceous perennials we use in our landscaping projects.

Stephen Collins BSc.(Hons) Hort. MCIHort.

Director, Construction Manager

Stephen is the head of our construction team. He has been designing, specifying and building high-quality landscapes for over 30 years.

He also leads the construction team that completes medal-winning RHS Flower Show exhibitions for our sister company Grafton Nursery. Together, the two companies hold over 20 medals, including an RHS Chelsea Flower Show Gold medal, and a trophy.

Stephen carries out some of the designing detailing for our bespoke landscape features, using a range of software programs to ensure clients are getting the best finish and the best value for money out of their construction project.

He is a skilled craftsman and can undertake a range of hard landscaping including building patios, walls, water features, and swimming pools, as well as carrying out bespoke carpentry at our workshop.

Stephen first encountered landscape design as a student when he studied the subject as part of his degree in Horticulture at the University of Bath, where he met Hilary. Shortly after graduating they began designing and constructing gardens.

Wildlife-friendly gardens are particularly important to Stephen. Steve is an enthusiastic bee keeper and an active member of his local British Bee Keepers Association group. He grows plants around the nursery just to feed his bees in order to keep everyone well stocked with his honey.

Steve also has a background in crop production, being a 3rd generation horticulturist and having grown up on a salad farm in Cornwall. He now maintains a large orchard of his own and enjoys growing vegetable and salad crops when time permits!

Charlie Hartigan BA Hons, PGDip LA

Landscape Architect, Lecturer

Charlie is our lead Landscape Architect. She has a passion for landscape design and enjoys adding subtle, fine detail to really give her projects the 'wow' factor.

She joined Envisage in 2011 on a part-time basis whilst studying Landscape Architecture at University of Gloucestershire.

After her four years of study she spent the next three years teaching the Landscape Architecture and Interior Design students at the University.

Charlie now works full-time for Envisage to ensure she can give her clients the attention they deserve. She has worked on a range of sites from country house estates to shopping centers, or small back gardens to wildlife parks.

Her passions are a mix of old and new; the latest design software and landscape history. At one point she was teaching herself how to use a 3D scanner for field surveys whilst simultaneously studying a Landscape History course at the University of Oxford!

Whilst studying at University she was awarded both the Women In Property 'South West' prize and then later the Women in Property 'National Student of the Year' award, as well as the University's 'Bodfan Gruffydd' Postgraduate year group prize.

Most recently, Charlie received a Silver-Gilt medal and the RHS Peoples Choice Award for the Best Large Garden in the 2019 'Young Designer of the Year' competition at RHS Tatton Park.

Later in 2019 she was announced as one of Pro-Landscaper's prestigious "30 under 30" as one of their 'ones to watch'.

Hilary Collins BSc.(Hons) Hort. MCIHort.

Garden Designer, Horticulturist, Author

Hilary is our Garden Designer and Horticultural Consultant. She is a skilled horticulturist, and her love of science and art has helped her to create stunning tapestries of colour in her clients gardens.

Her bespoke garden design and planting schemes have created the wealth of beautiful gardens in our portfolio, including commercial projects such as Worcester Hospital.

Kitchen Gardens are of particular interest to Hilary due to her background in productive horticulture. She has extensive knowledge and experience of creating beautiful vegetable gardens and cutting gardens for large properties and stately homes wishing to grow their own seasonal produce or cut flowers.

Hilary is also the CEO of Grafton Nursery, our RHS Chelsea Gold-winning tree nursery, and the largest Eucalyptus nursery in the UK.

As a student of Horticulture at the University of Bath, Hilary spent a large amount of time in horticultural research institutions, most notably helping to research a cure for Fire Blight. She has since spent 10 years researching the horticulture of Eucalyptus trees and has established herself as the UK's expert on the subject, having been featured on TV for the RHS Chelsea Flower Show and in various magazine articles. Take a look at our nursery here.

Hilary is a published author, having written gardening articles for several magazines for many years, you can read some of these in our Library. She is also the author of several Eucalyptus guides and a book called 'Fantastic Foliage and how to Farm it; the essential guide to growing cut Eucalyptus' which has been sold all over the world, including Australia!

The Envisage Experience

We don't 'build' gardens. We deliver happiness. Every morning when you wake up and open the curtains, I want you to say"wow".

     - Hilary, Garden Designer

The Envisage experience

We offer a bespoke, hand crafted, design to completion service. There is no such thing as a 'standard' or 'package' Envisage landscape; we are flexible and accommodating to ensure that we deliver the standard of service that you expect, and the garden of your dreams.

Our in-house Landscape Architect, Garden Designers, Horticultural Technicians, and  Landscape Construction & Maintenance team provide a complete range of skills to tackle any landscape project from start to finish. If more specialist skills are required, we can recommend a handful of carefully selected small companies to deliver bespoke items such as ironmongery, garden lighting, or extensive irrigation systems.

No two of our designs are the same; we respect the uniqueness of our clients and their landscapes.

See our guide to The Design and Build Process for a further explanation of the various steps.
