The RHS are well known for supporting the next generation of garden designers.

The Young Designer of the Year competition is now over 10 years old and is seen as a cultivation bed for future big names in the industry. Previous finalists are often found lining the avenues of prestigious Flower Shows such as Malvern, Hampton Court and Chelsea.

The path to Young Designer of the Year is long and thorough. The RHS want to know they are getting the best. Charlie likened the volume of plans, drawings and supporting documents required for the application to that of her final undergraduate dissertation.

The Envisage Team were excited to hear that, a full 8 months before the show, Charlie had been invited to interview at the Royal Horticultural Society’s headquarters at Lindley Hall, London.

Charlie thoroughly enjoyed her interview, getting a sit-down meeting with the Show Manager and her team as well as a representative of the Judging Panel from the application stage. The feedback during the interview was positive and inspiring; “these are some of the best drawings we have ever seen!” was one of the comments received.

Following the interview, Charlie was delighted to find out that she was one of four Finalists selected to build their gardens at the RHS Tatton Park Flower Show 2019 – the final stage of the competition.

Timing this show would be complicated as the Envisage and Hardy Eucalyptus teams at Grafton Nursery were also exhibiting in the Floral Marquees at RHS Malvern, RHS Chelsea, and NEC BBC Gardeners World Live between 1st May and mid-June. The Tatton Park build-up starts on 1st July, 16 days before the show opens.

We were delighted to receive a Gold Medal for each of the Floral Marquee exhibits, which reflected the hard work, expertise and effort the team have put in.
